Last years’ Ramadan seems like a blur for me, there was so much going on during that period with the pandemic that I can’t actually think back to particular moments during Ramadan 2020. I’m not downplaying the importance or significance of Ramadan, I am aware of how important it is to people of religion however Covid-19 really did cast a grey cloud over the sunny skies of the UAE.
If we look at Ramadan 2020 from a Marketing perspective, I do not believe businesses were promoting their business with focus on Ramadan, all I can remember was businesses fighting to stay afloat and how they can steer their business through troubled waters!
Due to the pandemic overshadowing Ramadan in 2020, we can’t really look at search trends specifically based around Ramadan, the search trends whether they were increasing or decreasing were heavily influenced by the pandemic.
Let’s now look at the present, Ramadan 2021, we are now seeing the light at the end of the tunnel and albeit we are still considered to be in a “pandemic”, business owners and the general public are refusing to let that beat them and now getting back to normality (Dare I say it) so that means that Ramadan in 2021 will take precedence and will be celebrated as it should be, without the distractions or hysteria of Covid-19.
Furthermore, we have very few social limitations in comparison to 2020. We are now free to visit restaurants, bars, city attractions, hotels, shopping malls, cafes, the list could go on forever.
What does that mean for the general public?
The general public in the UAE have reduced working hours. Do people in the UAE like to spend most of their afternoon or evening at home? ….No way! Dubai is a city that never sleeps (especially during Ramadan) so people need things to occupy their time. Such as, Pool days with friends, Hotel staycations with friends or a special someone, restaurants, Bars also shopping at the malls. And where do they go to find specials deals for all of these places? …. Yes, you’re right, they pick up their phones and search online!!
So what does this mean for businesses?
There is MONUMENTAL opportunity for you to offer value to all of the people searching for the above & more. If you are not marketing your business and taking advantage of the increased demand, then you can bet a bottom dirham that your competitor is! Do not miss out on one of the best opportunities within the calendar year.
